Nanaimo Community Home Learners

What are Nanaimo Home Learners doing?

Monthly Gym Time

Kids playing with a Parachute

On the 1st Thursday of every month, NCHL families meet at Oliver Woods Community Centre (behind Nanaimo North Town Centre) from 1:00-4:00 pm to socialize and exercise.

Kids of all ages get active in the gym and outdoor playground while parents share stories, ideas and resources in the meeting room.

Featuring an extensive lending library and exchange table (where families can donate and/or pick up clothing, books, toys), the monthly meetings are a great place to connect with other parents who are taking the lead on their children's education and wellbeing.

Tea and light snacks are available.

Free for NCHL Members.

$5.00 drop-in fee for non-members.

NCHL Google Group

NCHL's Google group offers a place to ask questions, share resources, and perhaps start planning a new event, activity or program, with or for other homeschool families.

Each month our Google group members receive the NCHL newsletter, featuring information about upcoming activities and events, homeschool tips, and advertisements from local businesses interested in tapping in to the homeschool market.

NCHL Lending Library

NCHL Lending Library

The NCHL lending library has hundreds of resources available to member families. Members can check books out during the monthly gatherings at Oliver Woods and keep them until the next monthly gathering.

Please note, the library lending policy:

  • Library books may be borrowed from the NCHL Library by paid-up members in good standing.
  • Library books are due back at the next month’s meeting. If you cannot attend, please let the librarian know so your books can be renewed or returned by some other arrangement.
  • All library books must be returned by the Family Potluck in June as NO books will be allowed out over the summer.
  • Lost library books are the responsibility of the borrower and replacement of or reimbursement for the lost books will be determined by the NCHL planning committee.
  • Library privileges will be revoked until overdue or lost books issues are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Borrowers who have outstanding, overdue or lost books may be required to pay extra to renew their annual NCHL membership.

NCHL members are offered the following types of support:

  • A Forum with information about resources, upcoming events, activities, classes, programs and field trips.

  • A Lending library (which will be made available by request)

  • Parents Chat Night with Like Minded Parents (Dates and Times Coming Soon)

  • Free Resources that are shared amongst the Members
